Senior Laptop Guide
Ensuring Digital Inclusion for Seniors
Challenge
The library launched a laptop lending program to help seniors access online services and stay connected. However, many patrons in this audience faced barriers: limited technical experience, lack of confidence, and no access to in-person guidance. The challenge was to create a user-friendly guide that translated complex IT instructions into something seniors could navigate on their own.
Solution
I adapted technical documentation into a visual, step-by-step guide designed specifically for non-technical users. The layout emphasized accessibility through clear typography, intuitive iconography, and a calm, spacious design. By focusing on reassurance and clarity, I reduced cognitive load and made the process approachable, helping seniors engage with the technology independently.
Impact
The guide empowered senior patrons to use library technology with confidence, ensuring continued access to essential services and reducing reliance on staff support. It also reinforced the library’s mission of equitable access by addressing the needs of a vulnerable user group often excluded from digital initiatives.
