Website Redesign
Transforming Digital Access During a Critical Moment
Challenge
When the community’s need for remote access to services became urgent, the library’s website was not equipped to function as the primary channel for service delivery. An immediate redesign was required to provide clear, accessible information and reliable access to digital resources.
Solution
As the sole designer, I led a rapid redesign centered on intuitive navigation and clarity. The new site prioritized access to digital collections and communicated rapidly evolving service models, from curbside pickup to health and safety updates, ensuring patrons could continue engaging with the library despite physical closures.
Impact
The redesigned site became the library’s primary service channel, facilitating all patron interactions at a critical time. It was formally recognized as a key factor in the decision to keep the building safely closed during the height of the pandemic, helping protect staff and patrons while ensuring uninterrupted access to essential library services. The redesign also drew recognition beyond our own community: it was showcased in a statewide webinar as a model of excellent web design, and peers from other libraries reached out to learn from the approach.
