Covid-19 Signage

Communicating Critical Safety Information with Clarity and Speed

I designed a modular crisis signage system for a communications team managing rapidly evolving COVID-19 protocols, translating health policy language into clear, accessible public messaging under continuous time pressure.

Challenge

Protocols changed faster than traditional design workflows could accommodate. Messaging needed to reach a diverse audience, including non-native English speakers, accurately and without causing alarm, while remaining consistent with organizational voice and updatable within minutes.

Solution

A templated visual system built around a core communication philosophy: large type, uncluttered layouts, plain language, and iconography to support comprehension across language backgrounds. Tone was calibrated to be direct without being alarming — critical in a high-stress public environment. Templates allowed the communications team to push updated messaging as fast as protocols changed.

Impact

  • Messaging turnaround reduced to minutes

  • Sustained visual consistency and accessibility across continuous protocol changes throughout the pandemic

  • Communication approach designed for a stressed, multilingual public audience
